Educating for Empowerment.

Access to education changes everything. At FTK, we’re reducing barriers that keep children out of school by providing meals, supporting teachers, and improving facilities—especially for girls. But many challenges remain, and together we can ensure every child has a chance to learn and thrive.

The Challenge in Lower Moshi

In Lower Moshi, over 15,000 school-age children rely on more than 60 government and private schools. Yet many face daily barriers:

  • Lack of reliable school transport

  • High absenteeism and dropout rates

  • Shortage of classrooms and learning materials

  • Low teacher retention and motivation

  • Poor sanitation facilities, impacting especially girls

  • Parents unable to afford school-related costs

These challenges mean too many children miss out on the education they deserve.

FTK’s Approach

Community Collaboration for Lasting Change

In April 2012, FTK hosted the first Lower Moshi Education Meeting, uniting school leaders, teachers, parents, and local officials. Together, we committed to practical steps:

  • Continuous teacher training and resource support

  • Providing daily meals to keep children in school

  • Improving school infrastructure and sanitation

  • Supporting girls’ education to reduce dropouts

  • Linking education with health, income, and community development

  • Improving student transport to reduce absenteeism

A Foundation for the Future

These efforts have already made a difference—reducing absenteeism, keeping girls in school, and improving classroom environments. Yet many schools in Lower Moshi still lack basic infrastructure, teaching resources, and meal programs.
